The Process
Milling
Every step of the process is equally important to the quality of the finished product... We take no shortcuts. Our machinery is precisely calibrated to ensure every dimension is accurate to within a 64th of an inch. Precision is extremely important to us...
Assembly
.We want our crates to be durable and able to withstand the test of time. All joinery is glued and screwed together to insure this. There are no nails, or putty of any kind, just furniture quality joinery...  After assembly, all sides, faces and edges are sanded smooth and flush down to 220 grit in preperation for the finish coating. This insures a seamless flat surface, and each and every joint is perfectly flush.
All solid wood lumber is received in 5/4 (1 1/16 thick) stock in varying widths and lengths. We then cut it to width + 1/8" and mill it down to proper width and thickness with a planer to ensure exact dimensions and a smooth face and edge.  Dimensioning is important, and as cabinetmakers do, we use a caliper to measure finish material to ensure it truly is exactly as it should be... The finished top and bottom platform are made with a crossband 3/4 thick plywood (veneer core center with 1/8" layer of MDF top and bottom to ensure a flat smooth surface)  with a veneer on both sides. The top surface is wrapped  with 1" wide solid wood, mitred at all 4 corners. The bottom paltform Edges are finished with solid wood 3/16 thick band on all 4 sides. 4" tall legs are solid wood. additional options are available, contact us with your ideas...
Finish
Using a durable finish is an important decision. We use a clear satin conversion varnish in a 3 coat application. This finish has been an industry standard in custom cabinetry for over 20 years.... it is simply, the best finish out there today. Paint grade crates have the same finish, just a custom pigmented version for any specific color, which is made to order, 1 gallon at a time.
